Today, I will like to identify with those who in recent times, have been asking and believing God for specific miracles in their lives. For example, healing, befitting work, financial empowerment, settlement of debts, deliverance from poverty, freedom from childlessness, independence from lack of meaningful progress, repair of broken homes/marriages etc.

But somehow, their expectations have not been met up till now, and they are presently unsettled, and disgruntled. Some of them might even be querying the relevance of God these days, and thinking that it might be more constructive to seek an ‘alternative’ to God. If you are in this position, please pause a little bit, and let us consider the following facts for support.

1. There is no credible alternative to God. Hannah made this explicit in her prayer in 1 Samuel 2:2. In it she said: ‘’No one is holy like the Lord, for there is none beside you, nor is there any rock like our God’’.

We can see from this passage that there is no credible alternative to God. He is the final authority in all situations, and with him, nothing is impossible (Luke 1:37).

2. There is nothing unusual about your current experience(s). Remember that Jesus Christ never promised us a life devoid of ups and downs ab-initio, and he made it very clear in John 16:33 that: ‘’… In the world you (we) will have tribulation; …”

Above indicates very clearly that tribulation and by extension, hardship, uncertainty, frustration, dashed hopes etc. are a common part of living, which we cannot brush aside.

3. God is aware of your plight, and he is committed to giving you respite. King David gave credence to this statement in Psalm 104:14. He said: ‘’For he (i.e. God) knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust’’.

God knows everything about you. He knows that you are frail, and he is prepared to do everything possible to make your lives tolerable. He is also firmly committed to listening to you, and taking necessary steps towards assisting you. No wonder he proclaimed through Prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 65:24) that: ‘’It shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are still speaking, I will hear’’.

Because of the proclamation above, many people have asked why it does appear as if God is slow in fulfilling his promises. Well, I personally don’t think he is slow; rather, I believe he is just being cautious, because he is a perfectionist (Ecclesiastes 3:14). Apostle Peter confirmed this in 2 Peter 3:9 thus: ‘’The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance’’.

We can conclude from above that slackness is not an attribute of God. He is committed to helping us, however, we must be patient with Him  (Matthew 10:22).

Friend, please keep God abreast of all your concerns in line with the suggestion of Prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 62:6&7) which says: ‘’…You who make mention of the Lord, do not keep silent. And give him no rest till he establishes… ’’.

Therefore, don’t give up! Please keep on talking to God; keep on trusting him too and he will make you beautiful in his own time (Ecclesiastes 3:11).

Jesus is Lord!

In Revelation 3:8, Jesus Christ said: ‘’…Behold I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it…‘’.

This is a remarkable pronouncement that is extremely relevant to us in this dispensation.  It is obviously uplifting because it assures us of absolute freedom from the clutches of the Devil and inexhaustible opportunities.

Before moving any further, please let us pay a close attention to the word door so that we can understand the import of this write up better.  A door has been described as ‘’a solid sheet (of wood, metal, glass etc) hung so that it permits access through or closes up an entrance‘’.  And if it is of a good quality, it will prevent intrusion, guarantee security, confidentiality and dignity.  However, it could also be an impediment if it is closed for too long because it will effectively shut out access to food, water, light, wholesome air, assistance, companionship etc.  In a situation like this, death cannot be far fetched.  But, the situation is bound to change the moment this door is re-opened.

Figuratively speaking, any situation that limits you or that makes your life continually tough can be likened to a state of closed door.  Such situations include ill health, barrenness of diverse kinds, joblessness, poverty, stagnation or regression in life, lack of meaningful assistance, debt, sin etc.  If any of these is worrying you at the moment then, be of good cheer because right now, Jesus Christ is saying ‘’…Behold I have set before you an open door (out of the situation), and no one can shut it…‘’.

The benefits of accessing the aforementioned door are many but we shall consider a few of them today because of time and space constraints.

1.  Healing.  One of the major functions that Jesus Christ performed on earth was to heal different aspects of our lives ranging from our minds and souls, to our bodies and even to our material needs (Luke 4:18).  Healing from him is still readily available today if only we can boldly access the open door that he set before us.    Jesus is not a respecter of persons and whatever he has done for others in the past; he can still do for you this time around.  Perhaps some aspects of your life or the life of somebody close to you needs healing please, access this open door today. Ask Jesus Christ to heal them and guess what? He will since he is hugely primed to do so (Act 10:38).

2.  Deliverance from barrenness.  Barrenness can manifest in diverse ways.  For example, inability to have children is a good example.  Others include poverty of ideas, stagnation or regression in life etc.  Please allow me to focus on the first category i.e. inability to have children today.  It is a very restrictive and painful experience.  It becomes more agonizing if one comes from parts of the world where failure to have children is a big issue.   In such places, life is deliberately made difficult for those affected.  To the sisters and brothers desiring to have their own children, I bring good tidings to you! And that is, today, Jesus has set before you an open door, and no one can shut it.  And by the grace of God, this door will lead you to having your own children in the name of Jesus.  Please remember that it is your inalienable right to have children (Psalm 127:3) and as far as God is concerned, barrenness and miscarriage has ceased to be a part of your life (Exodus 23:26).  So cheer up!

3.  Deliverance from sin.  Sin is a major phenomenon which we unfortunately inherited from Adam and Eve.  No one is free from it (1 John 1:8) and because of sin, it is difficult for us to escape intricate life situations which regrettably, may lead to needless death if care is not taken (Romans 6:23).  We should be happy though since Jesus has set before us an open door which no one can shut.  And accessing this door by confessing our sins and turning away from them will help us in no small way in getting rid of them (1 John 1:9).  In addition, God is also willing to deliver us from the effects of our past sins.  Prophet Hosea made allusion to this fact in Hosea 6:1 when he said: ‘’ Come, and let us return to the Lord; for he has torn, but he will heal us, he has stricken, but he will bind us up’’.  If you are yet to confess and forsake your sins and if you are yet to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior please pause a little bit and do so straight away.  You may even wish to rededicate your life to Christ if you feel a compelling need to do so.  Definitely, you stand to gain a lot from this exercise.

Friend, we have seen some of the benefits that follow the open door Jesus Christ is referring to.  As an individual, what do you hope to achieve by accessing this open door? Then why don’t you go ahead and convey it (or them) to Jesus Christ in prayer today? Things will only get better for you and not worse.  It is my fervent prayer that your expectation in life will never be cut off in Jesus name.  Amen.

Jesus is Lord!

In Revelation 3:20, Jesus Christ said: “Behold I stand at the door and knock, if anyone hears my voice and open the door, I will come in to him…’’

Above is a very soothing statement, which demonstrates the readiness of Jesus Christ to visit us, and this has nothing to do with our status, level of education, finance, spirituality, connection, racial background, etc. He is fond of visiting His people regularly; perhaps every day, and when He does, He dishes out great benefits. This position is confirmed in Psalm 68:19 as follows: “Blessed be the Lord who daily loads us with benefits’’.

So, what are the benefits that we are talking about here, you may wish to ask? Well, there many of them, but we shall consider only the following here.

1. Healing

This is a major benefit that accompany visits from Jesus Christ, and it is very close to His heart. This is confirmed in Act 10:38 like this: “…Jesus of Nazareth … went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil…’’.

In Matthew 8:14, Jesus visited Peter, and met his mother in-law lying sick with a fever. Without wasting time, he touched her, and she became well instantaneously. From this story, we can safely conclude that a visit from Jesus Christ is capable of generating healing.

Friend, are you sick in any part of your body, or in any area of your life at present? If you do, then rejoice, because healing is around the corner. Pray to Jesus Christ to visit you with His healing power today, and you can be sure that He will.

2. Deliverance from shame

In John 2:1-11, Jesus Christ and his disciples attended a wedding ceremony! Soon, the organizers ran out of wine, and shame was looming. This was however stopped by the intervention of Jesus Christ, who turned ordinary water into wine of great quality and sufficient quantity. Supposing He did not visit; i.e. attend the wedding ceremony, the couple would have suffered unspeakable shame for the rest of their lives.

Are you currently harboring any shameful situation in your life? Does it appear as if you are incapable of changing it by yourself? If it does, then, invite Jesus Christ to visit you today. Commit the situation into His hands as well, and He will sort you out before long.

3. Change of reputation

Matthew was a tax collector, and a great sinner. No doubt, his reputation was in tatters, and no sensible person would interact with him freely. But one day, Jesus Christ visited the tax office, saw him there, and asked him to follow Him (Matthew 9:9). And from that day, he became one of His disciples, and his reputation changed from being a hated tax collector/crook, to a celebrated disciple of Jesus Christ; a priceless calling!

Do you have the notorious reputation of being a murderer, a cheater, a liar, a drug addict, an alcoholic, a prostitute, an adulterer, a debtor, etc.? Do you want it changed? If you do then, initiate a visit from Jesus Christ straight away, and your story will change sooner or later.

4. Salvation

This is the most important benefit that a visit from Jesus Christ can elicit. With it, you will become one of His followers, enjoy good things of life (Luke 12:31), and when your time on earth is over, you will attain Heaven (John 3:3); an unparalleled place to be (Revelation 21:4).

Zacchaeus (Luke 19:1-10), a tax collector, and a detested sinner like Matthew, was visited by Jesus Christ, despite intense objection from the people. And from that visit, he received his salvation, and all the benefits associated with it.

Friend, you can see that a visit from Jesus Christ comes with immense benefits. You too can have them today. But you have to do the right thing first; you have to sort out your salvation; you must be born again. Supposing you are not up till now, please invite Jesus Christ into your life as your personal Lord and savior at once, because tomorrow may be too late. He will not ignore you! After that, you will be well positioned to receive divine healing, deliverance from shame, change of reputation, Salvation, etc. from Jesus Christ. Amen.

I am sharing my testimony with you today, to glorify God, and to encourage those who are seeking His face for one thing or the other.

My wife and I got married in our hometown, Akure Nigeria, in October 1991, and for a very long time, we couldn’t have a baby of our own. As many people expected, I used my connections as a Medical Doctor, to avail ourselves of the services of the best Gynaecologists I could find in Nigeria and abroad, but none of them could help us. Several Pastors and brethren in the Lord also prayed for/with u; all to no avail! In the end, i.e. after spending loads of money, and really going around, we decided to hold our peace and wait on the Lord, whom we know has the ultimate power to turn around our plight.

I must confess that the period of waiting was very long, hard, and to a large extent, punishing. We experienced several frustrating moments, including heart-breaking jeers, painful negative comments, and mindless gossips from certain quarters, as well as societal isolation, all of which are common phenomena in our culture. Some people also ridiculed us openly, while others questioned the worth of our faith in the Lord. But thank God for giving us very good and understanding families and friends that stood by us throughout.

During the time we waited on the Lord, our heads were bruised, but we refused to bow them down; we were shaken but definitely not broken or forsaken by God. He constantly reminded us that it is our right to have children (Psalm 127:3), and that He would grant our request at the most favourable time, when His name would be glorified all over the world, and at no extra cost to us, and we believed Him. He specifically told us that He would give us a bouncing baby boy, good looking, and healthy!

I am happy to inform you that God fulfilled His promise to us on the 23rd of July 2007; after more than fifteen (15) years of waiting on Him! He gave us our son, whose names are Samuel Enioluwa (God’s man) Oluwagbohunmi (God heard my voice) Adegbulu, and he is completely who God told us he would be! His arrival gave us and countless people all over the world, profound joy, and hope. Besides, the name of God was indeed glorified throughout the world! To God be all the glory, honour, and adoration in Jesus name, amen.

My Final Thoughts!

There are many things, which I would have loved to pass across to those trusting the Lord for their own children, and/or other issues of immense value to them, but I cannot at this moment because of space and time constraints. However, I will like to base my final thoughts on Habakkuk 2:3. It goes thus: “For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry’’.

Friend, I urge you today, to continue trusting the Lord for your heart desires, irrespective of what you might be going through presently. He is able and willing to answer you, but in his own time (Ecclesiastes 3:11). Since He met us and several people out there, at the deepest points of our needs, I am persuaded that He will meet you at yours too, in Jesus name. Amen. Please don’t give up!

In Psalm 56:3-4, King David referring to God said ‘’when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you…I trust you, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?

King David was a very powerful and highly successful King of Israel.  He was outstanding in many ways and God loved him dearly.  And like other people, he too encountered numerous fearful moments in his life.  It is however not on record that he resigned to fate instead, he trusted God solidly and in the end he overcame all his fears.

Looking at the happenings in our world today, nobody can fault us if we construe that just as King David and the people of his time were afraid of one thing or the other, so are we at the present.  Everyday we see frightening evidences of terrorism cum insecurity, wars and threats of wars, hurricanes, earthquakes, destructive floods, wild fires, economic failure with its attendant negative effects like job losses, excruciating poverty, family disruption, sicknesses and infirmities, unjustifiable deaths etc.  All these and more have instilled colossal fear in the minds of many people.  What then is the way out? Absolute trust in God!

Absolute trust in God in fearful situations has many benefits and we shall consider some of them in this write up.  For example it guarantees:

1.  Safety.  We shall make allusion to Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego to defend this point.  The book of Daniel tells us that they were exceptionally talented young Jews in King Nebuchadnezzar’s service.  Even though they were very close to the King, they still trusted God completely.  However, they parted ways with him because he wanted them to worship his image of gold-something the young lads found extremely repulsive.  Instead of succumbing to the King’s threats of being thrown into a blazing furnace, they stuck to their guns and trusted God to keep them safe (Daniel 3:16-18).  They were later thrown into the furnace but guess what!  Nothing untoward happened to them.  This supports Proverbs 29:25 which says: ‘’The fear of man brings a snare.  But whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe’’.  If you desire absolute safety in this era of extreme insecurity then, put your trust in God and he will not disappoint you in Jesus name.  Amen.

2.  Deliverance.  1 Samuel Chapter 1 encapsulates how Hannah a barren woman was harassed untiringly by her husband’s junior wife Peninnah.  But despite the grave humiliation she faced, she trusted God completely and he delivered her from shame and sorrow by giving her a choice son called Samuel.  Perhaps you want God to do something stunning for you but a positive response appears out of reach and now you are afraid then, I bring good tidings to you!  Help is on the way; get ready for it.  Seek the face of God today, trust him absolutely too and he will deliver you from all your fears (Psalm 34:4).  Hannah trusted God and he delivered her from childlessness and its associated shame and sorrow.

3.  Prosperity.  In Genesis Chapter 12, God told Abraham, a very old man, to relocate to a new locality and he obeyed because he trusted God completely.  And for his act of obedience, God prospered him.  God gave him children (when it was entirely impracticable for him and his wife to have any child on account of old age) immense riches, honor, glory and a very good life.  God also gave him the privilege of dying peacefully and of being given a decent burial.  This example confirmed what is written in Proverbs 28: 25b i.e.: ‘’…But he who trusts in the Lord will be prospered’’.  If you want to prosper in this age and time that opportunities are fast shrinking then, put your trust in God and you will laugh last in Jesus name.  Amen.

Friend, we have established once again that it is beneficial to trust God.  Perhaps you are yet to trust him for solutions to issues that are affecting your life negatively then, the time to do so have come and it is now!  But if you have been praying about the issues for awhile and it seems respite is not in sight, do not worry and do not give up.  God will definitely respond in his own time (Ecclesiastes 3:11).

Finally through out this month, the remaining part of this year and for the rest of your life, I implore you to ‘’be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them (i.e. people or difficult situations) for the Lord your God, he is the one who goes with you, he will not leave you nor forsake you’’ (Deuteronomy 31:6).  So shall it be in Jesus name.  Amen.

Jesus is Lord!

I discussed the topic above with a friend some time ago, and I gained a lot from it.  And my experience made me to write some things about the name of Jesus, and cite instances that I am aware of, where it was evoked, with stunning results ensuing.  I am very excited to present this piece to you here.

First of all, the name of Jesus is one the most outstanding tools at the disposal of all Christians, and it prompts God to answer our prayers (John 16:23-24).  It is incredibly powerful, and it towers above all other names.  And when it is deployed against our enemies, it produces unbelievable results.  Apostle Paul attested to these facts as follows:  Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9-11).  The name of Jesus also guarantees absolute safety (Proverb 18:10), and salvation through it, is incontestable (Acts 4:12).

At this point, you may wish to ask who swayed the Apostles into using the name of Jesus in the first instance.  Well, Jesus himself did!  In John 14:13, He said ”…. I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the son may bring glory to the father’’.  This passage is also applicable to us because Jesus Christ said ”…what I say to you (i.e. His disciples), I say to all (and that includes us) (Mark 13:37).   I am therefore not surprised that loads of Christians these days are using the name of Jesus to perform wonders globally.  Since it works for them, it will surely work for you too.  Amen.

Now, let us consider some of the things that the name of Jesus can do. It:

1.  Makes people to become very bold.

One of the foremost things that the name of Jesus does for people is that, it makes them to become very bold.  For instance, Apostle Peter was well-known for his timidity.  He was so timid, that he denied Jesus Christ three times, before He was crucified (John 18:15-18, 25-27).  This he did, to play safe, and to stay alive!  But this same Peter later preached the gospel with unusual boldness and fervour, in the name of Jesus.  It is worth mentioning also that, himself and Apostle John became so bold, that the people in authority, who by the way, detested them, took notice of them.  The bible relayed this occurrence in Acts 4:13 this way: ”Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marvelled.  And they realized that they had been with Jesus”.

Before I became a Christian, I could not imagine myself talking to people about Jesus Christ.  But immediately I became born again, I picked up a rare boldness, which enables me to address congregations of diverse people and sizes, perform leading/multiple roles in Christian drama and film presentations, take part in Christian talk shows, write to people about Jesus Christ using all manners of social media that I fancy, etc.  And as a Medical Doctor, I offered healing, hope, and help to people, where conventional medical knowledge had failed them.   I did all these, by the grace of God, in the name of Jesus Christ.

Friend, if you want to do very well where others have flopped, if you want to move forward where others have retreated, and if you want to be noticed for God, where others have been largely ignored, then you must be prepared to do things differently from now on.  You must be prepared to shake off the restrictive yoke of timidity hanging all over you, and obtain indescribable boldness from God.  The good news is that He is prepared to give it to you today, if you ask Him in the name of Jesus Christ (Matthew 7:7, John 14:13).

2.  Makes healing possible.

The name of Jesus also makes healing possible.  Healing as we know is central to the ministry of Jesus Christ and God specifically anointed Him for that purpose.  Apostle Peter confirmed this position in Acts 10:38 as follows: …God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him”.

Jesus also wants us, Christians, to heal people in His name, in this age and time.  That is why He said:  ”And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name … they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover (Mark 16:17-18).

While I was on ward round one day, a nurse asked me to review a patient who was severely ill with a disturbing condition.  She had been on admission for about two weeks, and her condition did not improve a bit.  In any case, I reviewed her as requested, and I discovered that her doctors had done so well that I had nothing to add to, or subtract from their line of management.  However, I asked her if I could pray with her and she said yes.  There and then, I did so; I also decreed healing for her in the name of Jesus.  I was later told that not long after I left her, she fell soundly asleep for the first time in weeks.  And when she woke up several hours later, her conditioned had improved so well that she was discharge the following day, hale and hearty, to the glory of God.

Friend, you too can offer healing to the sick in the name of Jesus, if you haven’t being doing so (Mark 16:17-18).  Kindly carve out time to pray for them regularly, and whenever possible, lay hands on them as well, and they shall recover in Jesus name.  Amen.

3.  Makes casting out of demons possible.

We have the backing of Jesus Christ for this all important undertaking.  In Mark 16:17 He said: ”…these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons…”.

A young man once inhabited my boys’ quarters in Nigeria. He was actually homeless I met him, and many people advised me against taking him in, because he was suspected to be a druggie and they justifiably felt he could harm me at some point.  But somehow, I managed not to heed their advice! And not very long after he moved in with me, He became a born again Christian; I was then a hugely anti-born again Christians person with the fully backing of my father!  Before long, I noticed that he suddenly became very prayerful and fasting became his second nature.  He was also very busy conducting miracles services here and there, and folks were always flocking around him for one purpose or the other.  Then one day, he was directed in the Spirit to ask me to facilitate his getting to, and healing a particular man known to me, but unknown him.   The man in question was severely disabled and utterly disfigured and all medical interventions extended to him, were unhelpful.  Anyway, I facilitated the man of God and his team’s trip to the afore-mentioned man.  And as I was later told, when they got to him, and experienced his anguish first-hand, they were moved with compassion and they commanded the demon afflicting him to come out in Jesus name.  Then, the man’s body quaked violently for a fairly long time, and he was in a lot of pain but the men of God did not stop tormenting the demon, and commanding it to come out in the name of Jesus.  In the end, it succumbed, and came out riotously.  The man later went back to his government job, and lived a normal life thereafter to the glory of God.

Friend, you too can cast out demons in the name of Jesus, and you can be sure of his full support as you do so (Mark 16:17).  Amen.

4.  Makes Salvation possible.

The name of Jesus also makes salvation possible.  Apostle Paul verified this position as follows: ”Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

As I stated earlier on, I used to be a very anti-born again Christians person.  I went out for my usual road walk very early one Sunday morning, in my home town, Akure, Nigeria.  And along the line, I saw a well to do family going to church in their posh car, and I wondered why such classy people could allow themselves to be ‘brain washed into serving a God that is completely alien to our culture’.  I ended up pitying them for ‘their stupidity’! Afterward, I saw another family, a noticeably poor one this time around, walking to church scantily arrayed in their dirty dresses and I became really very angry.  My immediate reaction was to accost and upbraid them, for having anything to do with God ‘who I believe doesn’t give a damn about them at any rate’.  I also wanted to counsel them to do something sensible about their ‘pitiable lives’, after all, Heaven they say, help those who help themselves.  But by some means, I restrained myself! And a little time later, I discovered that I wasn’t interested in the road walk anymore.  I also discovered that a very strong and overwhelming feeling had taken over my being, urging me to turn back and proceed to a particular Pentecostal church in town for the day’s service.  Of course, I dismissed it, and I decided to continue with my exercise instead.  But to my surprise, my legs became increasing weak and heavy until they stopped working altogether.  Still, I tried to push on regardless, but the more I tried to do so, the more frustrated I became.  And to make matters worse, there was no one in sight at that time of the day, being a Sunday morning that I could call upon to help me out.  In the end, I gave up, and stood by the road side, unsure of what I should do next, and what would become of me eventually.  Then, the aforementioned strong feeling came back again, but this time around, I squeezed out the last energy in me to turn back, only to discover that I could move my legs perfectly again.  So, I ran all the way back to my residence, had a quick shower, dressed up smartly, fetched my long abandoned and dust covered bible, got into my car, and drove to the said church.  And when I got there, I saw different categories of people, rich and poor, well dressed and modestly dressed, educated and uneducated, old and young, all joyfully singing, dancing, clapping, jumping, and glorifying the name of the Lord and I was truly moved.  I was so moved that for the first time in my adult life; I decided not to criticize born again Christians because I saw substance in them, which I could not overlook.  I also listened to the day’s preaching with undivided attention, and before I knew what I was doing, I was on my knees, calling on the name of Jesus, and wanting to be committed to Him.  And two weeks later, precisely on the 4th of February 1991, I gave my life to Christ, during an impressive crusade in my home town, Akure, Nigeria; a task which generations of Christians before then tried, and failed to accomplish.  I give all the glory of God and I thank Him for the journey so far.

Friend, you sure need the name of Jesus to face the intricate challenges of living.  You also need it to heal the sick and to cast out demons.  Most importantly, you need it to obtain Salvation (i.e. become born-again) without which, you cannot attain Heaven (John 3:3).  So, if you are not yet born again, now is a good opportunity for you to do so.  All you have to do, is to invite Jesus Christ into your life as your personal Lord and Saviour, and He will answer you (John 6:37).  And when this is settled, then you have a good chance of doing very well on earth, and ending up brilliantly in Heaven.  So, make the move right now!

**Special thanks to my friend, Pastor David Afolabi Adesina of the Faith Palace Christian Centre, Luton.  UK.

Jesus is Lord!

c Adedayo Stoney Adegbulu, 2007

Prophet Isaiah was a great Prophet who exercised the functions of his office during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah all Kings of Judah.  His words were authoritative because they were uttered in the name of the Lord.  One day, as he was offering sacrifices in the temple, God revealed his glory and holiness to him.  He also made his intention about sending somebody to his people (i.e. the Israelites who had by then forsaken him in spite of the numerous great things he did for them) known to him.  Since Isaiah’s dominant task was to convey messages from God to men, he did not find it difficult to make himself available saying: ‘’Here am I send me’’ (Isaiah 6:8).

‘’Here am I send me’’ is a very deep statement and we shall concentrate on it today.  When uttered by a person, it conveys his or her willingness to be used by another person or group of people to achieve a specific purpose.  A lot of people that uttered or implied it genuinely at one time or the other are very selfless and they carried out the tasks they set out to accomplish with exceptional dedication; harm to their lives not withstanding.  In this group are people like Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, Mao Zedong, Martin Luther King Junior, Winston Churchill, Fidel Castro, etc.  All of them served and improved the lives of their people remarkably.

However, it is not all the people that utter this statement that are capable of completing the task(s) they set out to achieve.  This brings us to considering the possible ways by which people can respond to it using biblical examples as our guide.

1.  They may offer themselves to be sent ab initio but refuse to carry out the task(s) given to them.  Prophet Jonah stands out in this group.  To start with, he must have said or implied the statement ’’Here am I send me’’ to God at some point in his life for him to have been considered to become a prophet in the first instance.  In Jonah Chapter 1 God commanded him to ‘’ARISE and GO’’ to Nineveh on an errand for him but he refused to perform this task.  Instead of going to Nineveh in the North East, he headed for Tarshish in the West. The end result of his act of disobedience was that he ended up being swallowed by a fish for three days and three nights.  He would have lost his life if not for the kindness of God.  Perhaps you once volunteered to use your resources, time, skills, intellect, position etc to honor God but somehow you have reneged on your promise; please have a complete change of mind because the end result is fraught with danger.

2.  They may offer themselves to be sent, properly commence the task(s) given to them but end up poorly.  Gehazi is a very good example here.  He was a very devoted and diligent aide of Prophet Elisha.  And because of his loyalty to his boss, we can conveniently construe that he must have uttered or implied the statement ‘’Here am I send me’’ to his boss at some point.  He carried out the tasks given to him with exemplary zeal but abandoned the path of righteousness with the passage of time.  How? In 2 Kings Chapter 5, a distinguished commander of the Syrian army called Naaman came to Israel to consult Elisha in respect of his chronic leprosy which defied the best treatments available in Syria.  As expected, Naaman got his healing and in appreciation; he offered gifts to the prophet who rejected them.  Gehazi however was not happy with his boss’ action and he went behind to collect the gifts.  The aftermath of his action was that he became a leper himself.  This shows clearly that greed does not pay and that once a person is committed to a good course, it is not rewarding to look back (Luke 9:62).  Gehazi commenced the tasks given to him properly but ended up in disaster.  May you not end your life in disaster in Jesus name.  Amen.

3.  They may offer themselves to be sent, properly commence and conclude the tasks given to them.  Apostle Paul is a good example here. In Acts Chapter 9, he went to Damascus to persecute Christians until he was struck down from heaven.  Not knowing what he should do next he said: ‘’Lord, what do you want me to do?’’(Verse 6).  Above statement depicts a willingness to be sent and Jesus gave him the unambiguous task of taking the gospel to the Gentiles, Kings, and the children of Israel (verse 15) and he commenced and concluded it brilliantly and he was rewarded adequately (2 Timothy 4:7-8). It is vivid that the history of Christianity cannot be full without giving due consideration and prominence to Apostle Paul’s huge contributions.

Friend, do you have specific talents, skills, resource(s), education, time, position etc that can be used to enhance the work of God and are you willing to use them without wavering? If your answer is yes then, go on right now and say ’’Here am I send me’’ to God and be ready to work very hard in exchange for great rewards.  As a matter of fact, Jesus Christ promised us a hundred fold reward in terms of houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, lands etc in this world and in the age to come, eternal life (Mark 10: 28-32).  I personally cannot trade this mouth watering offer for anything on earth.  What about you? May the good Lord give you a willing heart and the strength to work for him and may your reward be full in Jesus name.  Amen.

Jesus is Lord!
