In 1 Peter 5:6-7, Apostle Peter said: ”Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you”.

Above is a well-known bible passage which confirms once again, that there is a God in Heaven who desires to shoulder all our care and this uplifting information, comes in very handy especially in this age of sickening worries and struggles.

Looking at the passage closely, you’ll discover that two words viz., ‘humble‘ and ‘casting‘, stands out distinctly and both, are intertwined. Being humble, a very good attribute, means being modest, meek, respectful, simple or unassuming etc. And in most cases, those who are humble don’t lack people hovering around; willing to help them. ‘Casting’ on the other hand, means throwing, hurling, lobbing, tossing or flinging something from one place to another. God want us to cast our care upon Him as He cares for us. But we can only do so if we are humble.

The best way any individual can cast his or her care upon God, is to go through Jesus Christ since both of them are one (John 10:30). So, once you’ve approached Him then, you’ve approached God and several people did just that in the bible. Let us now look at some of their conditions, hoping that in the end, we shall be stirred to imitate them.

1. Infirmity. In Mark 1:40-42, a leper approached Jesus Christ to help him sort out his leprous condition. That is, he cast his care of Infirmity upon God and he was cleansed (healed). This same Jesus, is willing and capable of healing you too (Acts 10:38) if you dare cast your infirmity upon God. Please try Him out today!

2. Unclean Spirit. In Luke 4: 31-37, Jesus was teaching in a synagogue in Capernaum, Galilee and a man, possessed by a unclean Spirit cried out loudly and said ”let us alone”. Indirectly, he cast his care of being possessed by an unclean Spirit upon God and Jesus rebuked and commanded it to come out of him and it did. Do you reckon that an unclean spirit is controlling you presently? If you do then, cast it upon God at once and you’ll soon be free (Isaiah 49: 24-25) in Jesus name. Amen.

3. Failed Business. In Luke 5: 1-7, some Fishermen led by Simon Peter, toiled all night without catching anything i.e., their business failed that night. But Jesus, came to their rescue by instructing them to launch out into the deep and they complied albeit, half-heartedly. In other words, they cast their care of failed business upon God and they caught so much fish which they couldn’t deal with unaided. Is your business failing at the moment or has it failed already? If it has then, cast it upon God today and He will fix it for you given that He desires your prosperity (Psalm 35: 27).

4. Sin: Matthew (Matthew 9: 9-13) was a tax collector, a crook and a hated sinner. But his sin did not deter Jesus Christ from enlisting him into His ministry despite objections from some quarters. Others sinners soon joined Him i.e., they cast their care of sin upon Him. Matthew later turned out well in His Ministry and today, he is an icon in Christendom to the glory of God. Perhaps you are battling with some un-confessed sins in your life at present; please confess and cast them upon God through Jesus Christ today. He’ll save you and turn you into a vessel of honour and a good candidate for Heaven.

Friend, as you can see, there are a lot to be gained by casting one’s care upon God. Therefore, go boldly before Him today and cast all yours upon Him for your freedom (Hebrews 4:16). He is willing to help you out and you’ll never be disappointed in Jesus name. Amen.
