This month, we shall be looking at part (1)/introduction of the topic, ‘Finishing Well in Life’.  Its parts (2) and (3) will come up in February and March 2014, respectively.  It is my prayer that by the time we conclude, we shall be well positioned to finish well in life in Jesus name.  Amen.

All serious-minded athletes participate in competitions, with the sole aim of finishing well and winning laurels.  That’s why they spend a lot of time and energy, on well thought out programs of action, and employ capable coaches to manage them.  They also scout around for good sponsors, so that paucity of funds would not be a problem.   Besides, they spend many hours, each day, to hone their skills, and participate in competitions that will help them to keep fit, and gauge their level of preparedness, cum standing alongside other athletes.

The life of a Christian is like a race, and we are the athletes competing in it (Hebrews 12:1-2).  And finishing well should be our main fixation at all times.  It should mean more than being successful and famous, or having numerous properties, spouses, children, businesses, and occupying choice posts.  In addition, it should mean more than dying old, and having impressive funerals.  To us, it should mean living life decently, being kind to people, loving God, and winning souls for Jesus Christ.  Above all, it should mean at the end of our lives, God will be waiting for us in Heaven to say, “Welcome Home my worthy children.”

Regrettably, many people like Adam and Eve, Eli, Saul, Solomon, Moses, Judas, Ananias, and Sapphira finished their lives poorly. But, it is cheering to know that on the other hand, many finished well.  Some of them are Abraham, Caleb, Daniel, David, Elijah, Enoch, Job, Joseph, Joshua, Samuel, Apostle Paul, and Jesus Christ.  Like them, we can finish well in life with the help of God (Isaiah 41:13).  However, we have to train ourselves diligently for godliness, the way athletes train themselves for competitions, first of all.  Also, we have to believe that we will succeed with the help of God, and that we will not be put to shame (Romans 10:11) in the end, in Jesus name.  Amen.

We shall take Part (2) of this write- up next month.  Please find time to join us.

For the time being, I commit you into the capable hands of God, and I wish you a very fulfilling Year 2014.  It will be well with you and your family, and whatever you do from now on, will contribute to your finishing well in life, in Jesus name.  Amen.

Jesus is Lord!
