Now the LORD had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you. 2.  I will make you a great nation; I will bless you…And you shall be a blessing’’ (Genesis 12:1-2).

I used to work in Akure, Nigeria, my home town, in the early part of my career. Initially, things went very well for me and my family there, but the situation soon changed, and we encountered myriads of difficulties afterwards, which made me seek help from people, especially those I thought could help us, but they ignored me. Some of them even denigrated me, and that was quite painful. It was as if God shut the door on us!

While sleeping one night, I dreamt I was addressing a congregation. I was all over the place, jumping from one part of the auditorium to another, screaming myself hoarse, panting and sweating profusely. Sadly, no one took any notice of me, and after some time, I became annoyed and decided to abandon the congregants. Suddenly, I heard a voice from behind, urging me to leave Akure because my time there was over. It also advised me to relocate to Benin-City, Nigeria, where I would be heard, appreciated and blessed.

Meanwhile, Benin-City, though bigger and more prosperous than ours, was not a popular destination among our people. A lot of them believed it is a violent, fetish, and sinful city, which should be avoided at all cost. But my wife and I thought otherwise. So, we sought guidance from our spiritual parents, to clarify issues and lay every concern to rest.

After we had fasted and prayed one day, they cleared us in the spirit and encouraged us to relocate to Benin-City, as I was advised in my dream. They also affirmed that we would be heard, appreciated and blessed there. Not only that, they prophesied that the City would pave the way for us to travel abroad, without stress. We left Akure and move to Benin-City shortly afterwards, not minding the negative remarks from various quarters.

Please, let me quickly state here that it wasn’t all gloom and doom for us at Akure because we enjoyed some good moments and relationships there too. A lot of people freely gave us their time, love, commitment, words of encouragement, best wishes, and prayers, etc., each time. And for these, we are most grateful. May the good Lord reward them richly, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Indeed, God blessed us abundantly in Benin-City. It was there that I became a functioning speaker. I spoke in numerous gatherings to different categories of people, and they listened to me. And with my sister-in-law, Temi Obasohan, my wife and I ran a televangelism ministry, WORD ALIVE, through which we reached millions of people every week, won several souls for Christ and motivated a lot of young people to do good and honour God. We also used our ministry to discover and bring into the limelight many hidden talents; singers, dancers, instrumentalists, actors/actresses, speakers, etc., that are doing great today to the glory of God.

On a personal note, I learnt new skills in Benin-City. One of them is typing, which I have used to write countless of medical and non-medical articles, books, theses, lecture notes, proposals, poems, orations, tributes, etc., all by myself. Besides, I learnt graphic design there, and today, I have several good designs to my credit. As if all above were not enough, my communication skill got a significant boost in that great City.

Professionally, my wife and I did very well too. For example, my colleagues and I treated and brought thousands of people back to good health. Also, I furthered my training in Medicine, studied computer appreciation, word processing, spreadsheet appreciation, etc. Additionally, I honed my skill in TV presentation and directing. All these I would never have done in Akure because of massive distractions and a shortage of opportunities there.

My wife and I also met and closely interacted with numerous good people that loved and stood by us, through thick and thin. The icing on our cake was that we met and enjoyed an excellent personal relationship, unwavering love, and unfettered spiritual guidance from the legendary Arch-Bishop Benson Idahosa, our dear father in the Lord of blessed memory, and his beautiful wife. I say big thank you to all these good people.

Finally, it was the Benin-City route that paved the way for us to relocate to the UK, without stress. And now, we are using the talents God gave us along the way to honour Him and do well for ourselves and humanity. I give Him praise!

Friend, my wife and I obeyed God by moving out of Akure, our home town and comfort zone, where we were, to Benin-City, where He wanted us to be, and He blessed us immensely in return, and we became channels of blessings to others (Genesis 12: 1-2). Today, I encourage you to do the same thing, and God will bless you as well.

Therefore, is God asking you to change your location for another one, or change your job for a new one? Is He asking you to acquire a new skill, start a new business, write a book, compose a song, or produce a movie? Is He asking you to end a relationship and start a new one with someone else? Etc. If He is, please obey Him, because He wants you to move from where you are now, to where He wants you to be.

If you obey Him, you will have rest (Matthew 11:28), victory (Deuteronomy 20:4), joy (Isaiah 35:10), peace (Psalm 29:11), promotion (Psalm 75:6-7 (KJV)), fresh ideas/creativity (1 Kings 3:12), etc. Moreover, your trials will be taken care of (1 Corinthians 10:13), and your broken heart will be healed (Psalm 147:3).

Furthermore, you will prosper, for that is the wish of God for you anyway (3 John 2), and your children will become mighty and blessed in your land (Psalm 112:2 (NIV)). Other mind-boggling things will happen to you also (1 Corinthians 2:9), and the name of the Lord shall be exalted in your life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Jesus is Lord!

The bible says, “It shall come to pass in that day that his burden will be taken away from your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck, and the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil” (Isaiah 10:27).

The passage above is very popular among Christians. It gives us the feeling of probable freedom from grave situations. It gives us rest of mind, and great joy as well. But for us to appreciate it well, I suggest we should look closely around the word ‘yoke’ in it first.

A yoke is a bar of wood crafted to unite two animals, so that they can work together in the fields to draw loads, pull farm tools, fetch water, and carry out other heavy tasks. Yoked animals are usually very strong, big, and diligent. Some of them include oxen, horses, mules, donkeys, and water buffalo.

The quality and quantity of a yoked animal’s output, depends solely on the level of co-operation he receives from his counterpart. Usually, yoked animals work ceaselessly until they become old and wrinkled, weak and useless. In that case, they are promptly replaced with young vibrant animals; no one misses or cares about them thereafter. Thank goodness, some organizations buy them off these days, so that they can enjoy early retirement, and live decently afterwards.

Figuratively speaking, people can also be yoked, if their lives depend solely on the whims and caprices of others. Usually, people who are yoked doesn’t have a say in matters that concerns them, and they are persistently burdened, frustrated, and limited by the consequences of their situations, which might include sin, unhappiness, sickness, barrenness, weakness, dashed hopes, poverty, insecurity, anxiety, and guilt among others, until a higher force delivers them.

Friend, does the scenario above describe you in any way? If you are, then you may be yoked to someone or something presently. Are you burdened, frustrated, and limited by the consequences of your condition, and do you honestly desire to be delivered from them? If you do, then you need to pray to God, who has the overriding power, and can use any thing (plus anointing oil) to deliver you (Isaiah 14:24-25).

He will answer you (Psalm 91:15)! He will destroy the sicknesses that your yoke imposed on you, and give you sound health instead (Jeremiah 33:6). He will remove weakness from you too, and give you strength to carry out great exploits (Daniel 11:32b). And if you are barren, God will give you a home like a joyful mother of children (Psalm 113:9).

Besides, He will abolish poverty all around you, and help you to prosper (3 John 2). Are you neck deep in debt? If you are, God will soon sort you out; you will then become self-sufficient, and lend to others (Deuteronomy 28:12). Are you perpetually in sin? If you are, God will forgive you, but you must be ready to confess your sin first (1 John 1:9). And if your name (reputation) is in tatters at the moment, He will give you a new one (Isaiah 62:2).

Friend, the source(s) and consequences of your yoke are no more important, since God is prepared to destroy them (Isaiah 10:27), through Jesus Christ (John 14:6). This same Jesus is now asking you to come to Him so that you can have rest (Matthew 11:28). Please answer Him quickly, don’t dilly-dally!

Last month, I narrated the story of Brother Curtis (not his real name) who contracted a mysterious illness, which knocked him down and out for some years. I also narrated how God delivered him through a man of God. You may wish to read the whole narrative on my website via…/.

Today, I will narrate how I met the said man of God to underscore the importance of helping people. His name is Bro. (later Pastor) Joe! He used to be the butt of ugly jokes in a small community in Nigeria where I did my National Youth Service. Some people said he was a bad man, a loafer, busybody, drug addict, cheat, etc. But, I believe he is a good man who had kind words for me each time I ran into him.

Bro. Joe lived in a dingy two-bedroom apartment with his uncle, his uncle’s two wives, and several children. Suddenly, he was thrown out, and he found himself on the street, living rough. Then one day, he came to my clinic and begged me to house him (I was living in a three-bedroom house plus a two-bedroom boys’ quarters, all by myself, at that time). I gladly gave him my boys’ quarters! Swiftly, some people in the community arose, and asked me to evict him ‘for my own good’, but, I stood my ground, and they left me alone after a while.

Bro. Joe later gave his life to Christ, and I noticed he was always reading his bible, praying very hard, and speaking in tongues (usually loudly). He was also attending crusades after crusades all over the place. Soon, people began to tell me how he preached to them, healed them, and cast out demons from them. I was stunned, but, very happy for him.

Early one morning, he knocked on my door, but, I ignored him because I wanted to be alone. He did same at 9. o’clock, and again at 12 noon. At that point, he shouted, ‘Lord, please get my doctor to talk to me’. I got up instantly, opened my door, and he told me he had a divine mandate to heal someone I know, and from his description, I knew he was referring to Bro. Curtis! Quickly, we travelled to where he was, and Bro. Joe and his team delivered him promptly.  Bro. Curtis lived a normal life afterwards to the glory of God.

Friend, I helped Bro. Joe, because that was the right thing to do (Hebrews 13:16), I never knew he was the ‘Angel’ God had arranged to fix Bro. Curtis (Hebrews 13:2). There are many people out there who needs help in some way like Bro. Curtis. Some of them need jobs, while others need money, food, water, shelter, clothes, drugs, education, etc. Please help them if you have the power to do so (Proverbs 3:27); they might just be the ‘Angels’ God has arranged to help you.

Besides, some people needs encouragement very badly; please encourage them (1 Thessalonians 5:11). Call them, send messages of hope to them, and if you can, visit them and pray for them. Guess what? God will remember your labour of love one day (Hebrews 6:10), and reward you as appropriate (Proverbs 19:17).

Yes, you may have helped some people in the past without commensurate rewards; please don’t be discouraged. Just keep doing good, and keep trusting God (Psalms 37:3a), and He will reward you sooner or later (Galatians 6:9). And when your journey on earth is over, He will give you a place in His Kingdom so that you can be with Him forever (Matthew 25:34-40), in Jesus name. Amen.

Brother Curtis (not his real name) and I were very close. He was a very intelligent and fun loving man, and he was doing reasonably well in his chosen career until he became severely ill. He was subsequently down and out for nearly four uninterrupted years!

Brother Curtis developed a mysterious illness which made his body to jerk forward, backward, and sideward violently without coordination.  In view of that, simple day to day tasks like eating, drinking, talking, walking, and sleeping became a huge problem for him. Besides, he was covered with huge, painful, and discharging boils from head to toe. Of course, he saw several top-notch medical doctors, but, none could help him. His was indeed a very pathetic case!

Figuratively speaking, anything that causes people much pain and sorrow, makes their lives unbearable, and renders them completely helpless, can be likened to the biblical Goliath; the symbol of pain, sorrow, and helplessness. Brother Curtis’ ‘Goliath’ was his prolonged incapacitating illness!

One day, he asked me to get him a ‘powerful’ juju man (also called a witch-doctor, sorcerer, occultist, magician, etc.) from my location to deliver him, and I told him I couldn’t, since I knew none, and since I abhor everything fetish anyway.  But, I promised Him I would be on the lookout for servants of God who could deliver him. I was not even a Christian at that time, but, I have always believed God can do all things, including those we consider impossible (Ephesians 3:20), all my life! Fortunately, I found an anointed man of God promptly, and he delivered Brother Curtis in the name of Jesus (Philippians 2 :10), during a deliverance session.

Brother Curtis came out of the spiritual exercise with his body movements and posture totally normalized. Not only that, he began to eat, drink, and sleep properly afterwards. Guess what? His sores also disappeared completely after a while, and he went back to his long abandoned job to the glory of God!

Friends, ‘Goliaths’ are everywhere, and they affect each of us in one way or the other at different times.  But, God will ‘slay’ ours for us as His children, if we ask Him to do so (Matthew 7:7). Is your failing health your own ‘Goliath’? If it is, then ask God to ‘slay’ it for you today; He will, and you will be healed (Jeremiah 33:6). And if yours is your poorly performing business or ministry, He will bless it, and you will be well-off (Deuteronomy 28:12), in Jesus name.  Amen.

Is your badly behaved Child your ‘Goliath’? If he or she is, then rejoice for God is set to save him or her (Isaiah 49:25). And maybe your crumbling family is your specific ‘Goliath’, God will mend it if you approach Him, and all of you will serve Him together thereafter (Joshua 24:15), in Jesus name.  Amen.

God is waiting, willing, and able to deliver you from your ‘Goliath’ no matter what it is, and no matter how enormous it is (Luke 1:37). Please go ahead and commit it into His able hands in prayer without delay, and He will ‘slay’ it for you sooner or later, and it will be well with you at the end of the day, in Jesus name. Amen.

Today, I remember my childhood friend, Babalola Okunola, alias Babby.  He is a distinguished Ear, Nose, and Throat Surgeon, a gentleman officer of the Nigerian Air Force, and a devoted child of God. He is a very good man, spotless in and out.

Babby and I entered the University at the same time, and I can recall he was a very good dancer; very sociable, always exuding kindness and happiness. Surprisingly, he gave his life to Christ one day, and some of us were truly sad about that development.  Why should Babby dump us, his ‘super cool’ friends, for a bunch of ‘dull looking, good for nothing born-again Christians’? I asked myself on and on.  Eventually, I approached him, and kind of pleaded with him to change his mind, but, he refused. So, I left him alone, but, right in my mind, I tagged him ‘a big joke’, ‘a bore’ and ‘an erratic character’.

Soon, Babby began to do well in the Christian fold.  He was always very calm, happy, and discussing Jesus Christ with anyone who cared to listen to him.  But, I still attempted to make him feel jealous by attaching myself, albeit insincerely, to some Christians in our set.  I wonder if they saw through my insincerity, because they were consistently so nice to me.

Shortly before our examination in the 4th year, I became unwell, and medical sciences could not help me as fast as I wanted, and I was really frustrated. But, one afternoon, Babby came up to me in the cafeteria, and said ‘Stoney, are you alright? I said no I am not, and I narrated my ordeal to him. Next, he said, can I pray for you? I know Jesus can heal you, He will set you free’ (John 8:36).  To me, that was good news, since I wanted to get well at all costs.  So, I quickly said ‘yes Babby, please pray for me’.  He later took me to his room, asked me to kneel down, read some bible passages with much authority, spoke in tongues for a while, laid hands on me, and commanded the forces troubling me to move out, in Jesus name.

Shortly after the prayer, I went back to my room, laid down on my bed and slept off, all within minutes.  I woke up nearly three hours afterward, had a quick supper, went back to bed again, and slept all through the night for the first time in many agonizing weeks.  That was how God delivered me faster (Isaiah 65:24) and better (Ecclesiastes 3:14) than what my doctors could have done for me.  I was promptly relieved of my continuous pains, sleepless nights, frustration, and of course medications. Hallelujah!

Friends, this God hasn’t changed a bit (Hebrews 13:8), and He is prepared to resolve all your troubles faster and better than you can ever imagine.  Please, take your illness to Him today, and He’ll heal you faster and better (Psalms 107:20).  Take your adversaries to Him as well, and He’ll deal with them faster and better (Ezekiel 25:17). Take your wayward children to Him right now, and He’ll save them faster and better (Isaiah 49:25).  Besides, take your ill performing business to Him, and He’ll revive it faster and better (Deuteronomy 28:8), in Jesus name. Amen.

Are you poor or broke? Are you bereaved, jobless, vulnerable, single and lonely, childless and broken hearted, etc.?  If you are, then approach God for help through Jesus Christ today, and He’ll deliver you faster and better (Matthew 11:28). Please note that He loves you exceedingly (Zephaniah 3:17), and He’ll do anything to make you happy (Psalm 84:11).  Therefore, commit all your troubles into His hands today, do not hesitate, and it shall be well with you, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.

I used to work and live in a town located in the potentially prosperous, but, criminally neglected oil and gas producing Niger Delta region of Nigeria. One of the things I first noticed when I got there, was its disturbing high rate of crime. At a time, almost everyone I knew there, had been robbed at least once, and all of them had very frightening tales to tell.

The general consensus then, was that we would be robbed someday too. But, no one knew when and how it would happen. Eventually, a gang of about ten (10) fully armed, fierce looking, marijuana smoking, and very noisy robbers, invaded our compound around 1.30am one day. Definitely, they came to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10).

All we could do on sighting the gangsters, was to say a short prayer! But, before we did, I remembered Jesus Christ (John 11:1-44), Daniel (Daniel 6:1-28), and Jonah (Jonah 1-2) in quick succession. I remembered before God did great miracles through them, they gave thanks to Him first.

Straight away, I believed God wanted us to demonstrate our trust in Him, in prayer and thanksgiving. So, I held my wife’s hands, and prayed thus: “Father, we thank you for each time we call on you, you answer us. Please, deliver us from these armed robbers, and let this siege end right now, in Jesus name. Amen.

After saying the prayer above, we held our peace, and trusted God to save us. I even toyed with the idea of taking a nap at some point.

Before long, one of the armed robbers spoke in a subdued, but, clear and determined voice that he was no longer interested in the robbery operation, because according to him, he could sense a powerful force around our house, which he was not ready to confront. Please, remember we are talking about very dangerous criminals who were high on drugs here!

Some members of the gang soon backed him, and an argument erupted among them. Suddenly, they fled our compound in disarray, leaving their leader behind. Eventually, he (i.e. their leader), took a hard, but, disappointing look at our house, shook his head, jumped over our fence, and melted into the darkness.

And instantly, Acts 2:21 zoomed into my mind. It says: “And it shall come to pass, that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” The hasty retreat of the armed robbers from our compound, also brought Deuteronomy 28:7 to life in my mind. It says: “The LORD will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.

My wife and I trusted God; we called on His name, and He saved us from those dangerous armed robbers. This same God is interested in saving you today as well (Isaiah 35:4). Without a shred of doubt, you are safe under Him!

Your life is safe under Him (Psalm 91:11-15), your children are safe under Him (Isaiah 49:25), your household is safe under Him (Acts 16:31), your health is safe under Him (Isaiah 58:8), your business is safe under Him (Deuteronomy 28:12), your reputation is safe under Him (Isaiah 61:7), your land is safe under Him (Deuteronomy 11:10-12), etc.

Guess what? Your dream of attaining Heaven is even safe under Him. But, you must give your life to Christ to begin with. That is, you must be born again! It is when this is settled, that you stand the best chance of attaining Heaven; the Kingdom of God (John 3:3).

Friend, are you born again? Congratulations, if you are! But, if you are not, then, this is a good opportunity for you to do so. Please give your life to Jesus Christ today, and it shall be well with you, in Jesus name. Amen.

Recently, I remembered one of my Secondary School teachers who refused to sign me up for his subject in the School Certificate Examination. And in order to justify his action, he wrote “…no ability” against my name in a report. Meanwhile, I badly needed his subject to be eligible for the said examination. Thank God that one of our teachers, a kind-hearted man, intervened on my behalf, and I was allowed on board. Even then, the subject teacher did not give me a breathing space throughout the period I was under him!

To be truthful, I was very upset that he concluded that I had ‘no ability’, and I vowed to prove him wrong! For that reason, I bought and painstakingly read all the text books I could find on his subject several times. Not only that, I joined relevant discussion groups, and attempted loads and loads of past questions. I devoted sufficient time to other subjects too, and most importantly, I believed that “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me’’ (Philippians 4:13). In the end, I passed the entire examination, plus the teacher’s subject, with distinction. And my result paved the way for me to study Medicine in the University later on.

In a nutshell, I deleted the teacher’s negative opinion about me; inserted and believed God’s, worked very hard, and smashed the examination brilliantly. I proved him wrong, and God dead right!

There are many people out there who have been grossly limited, or badly damaged because they accepted and believed all the negative things that their parents, family members, teachers, friends, etc., said about them in earlier times. If you are one of them, I have good news for you! Today, you have the opportunity to turn things around in your favour! But, you must be prepared to delete the negative opinions of people about you, and insert cum believe what God says to replace them. This action is akin to choosing between life and death; please choose life (Deuteronomy 30:19)!

From now on, if anyone says you will not prosper; please DELETE his or her opinion, and INSERT, i.e., replace it with, “I will prosper, because it is the wish of God for me to do so above all things” (3 John 2). If he says you can never be promoted at work; delete his opinion, and insert “promotion comes from God; He will promote me at the right time’’ (Psalm 75:6). Supposing he says you can never have children of your own; delete his opinion, and insert “children are a heritage from the Lord; He will reward me with the fruit of the womb at some point’’ (Psalm 127:3).

If he says you will never recover from your illness; delete his opinion, and insert “healing is the bread of the children of God (Matthew 15:21-28); I will be healed too, since I am a child of God’’. What if he says you will never stop weeping? Just delete his opinion, and insert “weeping may endure for a night; my joy is coming in the morning’’ (Psalm 30:5).

Assuming he says you will never be free from that legal tussle; delete his opinion, and insert “Jesus set me free in the past; He will set me free again this time around’’ (John 8:36). Or did he say you can never be delivered from your addiction? If he did, then delete his opinion and insert “if the captives of the mighty and the prey of the terrible can be delivered, then, I will be delivered from my addiction as well’’ (Isaiah 49:25a). Etc.

Friend, remember that life and death are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21), and whatever you decree on earth, shall be established for you (Job 22:28). Therefore, use your mouth to secure your freedom; operate the ‘delete and insert’ drill I highlighted above from now on, and before long, you will see yourself overcoming your obstacles, realizing your dreams, and fulfilling your destiny in Jesus name. Amen.

Jesus is Lord!
