Dry Bones can Still Live

In Ezekiel Chapter 37:1-14, the Spirit of the Lord took Prophet Ezekiel to a valley full of dry bones and asked him to prophesy on them so that they can live again.  He did and they came back to life.

This is a popular account which I hope we shall pay more attention to someday.  But for the purpose of this write up, we shall only look at two words from it.  These are ‘bones’ and ‘dry bones’.  What are bones? They are the hard but extremely important whitish structures that form skeletons.  They are found in all vertebrates (i.e. animals having a back bone) such as mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fishes and they perform many functions.  For example, they support the body and aid its movement.  They also protect its vital internal organs such as heart, lungs, liver, spleen, brain, eyes, etc and they are crucial for the formation of blood cells.  However, they can only perform these and other functions when they are alive.  When they die, they’ll dry up and become utterly useless.  In a nutshell, dry bones are not capable of supporting life.

Figuratively speaking, those situations that make a person’s life difficult and show no sign of abating despite interventions can be referred to as ‘dry bone situations’.  There are many of them and they are capable of causing death if care is not taken.  Examples include incapacitating illnesses, poverty of different kinds, crippling debt, long-standing state of unemployment or underutilization of ones capability, barrenness of all types, unrelenting ill luck, lack of meaningful help etc.  If any of these is affecting you then, you need help which is readily available fortunately. All the same, you cannot access available help unless you are:

1.  Genuinely tired of and willing to get rid of your dry bone situation(s).  This is very important.  Jabez (1 Chronicle 4:9-10) for example was genuinely tired of and willing to get rid of his ‘dry bone situation’ (i.e. drought of blessings) and that gave him the motivation to act as appropriate.

2.  Prepared to go to the right quarters.  Most people find it convenient to look for help from ungodly quarters whenever they encounter ‘dry bone situations’.  To them ‘the end justifies the means’ but we know that several of them lapsed into deeper problems ultimately whilst some others lost their lives.  This shows that what is written in Proverbs 14:12 is true.  That is:

‘’There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end is the way of destruction’’

To avoid this needless destruction therefore, it is important that we should do the right thing first and this is to seek help from Jesus Christ.  He is the only person who is well equipped to overcome all ‘dry bone situations’ and Apostle Paul spoke brilliantly along this line in Philippians 2:9-11.  He said:

9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Having established that Jesus Christ is the only person who can overcome all dry bone situation(s), let us now delve into how we can get him personally interested in our individual case(s).  Firstly, we must accept him into our lives as our personal Lord and Savior.  Congratulations if you have done this before and if you are confident that your salvation is still rock solid.  But if for any reason you think it isn’t then, it is fitting for you to rededicate your life to him without any delay.  It is after concluding this important task that you can confidently approach him for help which he is eager to render.  He confirmed this in Matthew 11:28 when he said:  ‘’Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest’’.

Next, just as prophet Ezekiel prophesied on those dry bones, you too must prophesy on your dry bone situation(s) (please mention them one by one) to go in the name of Jesus Christ and they will (John 16:23-24).  Let me assure you here that you don’t need any special skill before you do this; all you need are boldness/faith (Matthew 17:20) and patience.  Please to not vacillate.  It is my heart felt prayer that as from this moment and for the rest of your life, you will find permanent freedom from all dry bone situations in Jesus name.  Amen.

Jesus is Lord!
