With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible.” (Mark 10:27)

I remembered Mrs. Suzanne, not her real name, recently. She was a beautiful, polite, well-connected, and rich businesswoman. She had all things going very well for her, but she had no child. She was under immense pressure from her husband and family to give birth to children or get thrown out of her matrimonial home. Such is common in our culture!

One day, she went to her gynecologist, a first-class professor, for an appointment. He later told her she would not give birth to children because of her complex gynecological history. Thus, confirming what many gynecologists in Nigeria and abroad told her in the past. There was no IVF treatment at that time. So, that was the end of the road for her, as far as childbearing was concerned.

As she was sobbing in a quiet corner of the hospital, another professor, not a gynecologist, came to her and asked why she was crying, and she narrated her ordeal to him. In the end, the professor, who is also a born-again Christian, told her God could give her a child in Jesus’ name.

She believed, and they prayed together that it would be so. She gave her life to Christ that day! A few months later, she became pregnant, without medical help, and gave birth to a baby boy nine months after. I understand she had other children in the latter years. In short, God resolved her childlessness problem through Jesus Christ (John 14:6).

God can do the same for you today if you wish (Luke 1:37). But it would help if you make Jesus Christ your personal Lord and Saviour, first. That is, you must be born again if you aren’t yet. Please, invite Him into your life today; He will not snub you (John 6:37).

Confess with your mouth, the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead. Once you have taken this simple but vital step, then you are born again (Romans 10:10), and God will be glad to sort you out through Jesus Christ (Matthew 11:28).

He will solve your childlessness problem and give you children (Psalms 127:3). And if you are single, He will provide you with a good person that will love and marry you, as well as add value to your life (Psalm 84:11). God will fight for you and save your children (Isaiah 49:25), and they will serve the Lord with you (Joshua 24:15).

Maybe your business or ministry is not doing well lately. Don’t worry; God will boost it (Deuteronomy 30:9), and it will increase rapidly, vastly, and beyond your wildest imagination (Ephesians 3:20).

Please, get set for a special touch from God in your life. It will surely come, so, wait for it (Habakkuk 2:3). And when it comes, it will thrust you forward and upwards quickly, and your joy will be full, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

In Matthew 5:14, Jesus Christ said: “You are the light of the world…’’. He uttered this statement to describe His disciples as part of His Historic Sermon on the Mount. Even though many people think He is right, the question remains, why did He describe them as such? Well, we shall soon find out, but before then, let us look at some points surrounding the conventional light, so that we can understand the import of this write up better.

Light is an electromagnetic radiation which is visible to the human eye. While its primary source is the Sun, it’s others sources include lightning, meteors, volcanoes, lasers, floodlights, light bulbs, lamps, lanterns, touches, and candles. Light is a significant add-on to the world! For example, it abolishes darkness, and enhances visibility. These then deter antisocial behaviours, and make human settlements safer to live in.

Like the conventional light, the disciples of Jesus Christ were a huge ad-on to the world. They preached to the people, taught them, supported them, fed them, comforted them, healed them, delivered them from bondage, and above all, led them to Christ. In short, they shed light on the best way to treat people. I am therefore not surprised that Jesus Christ called them ‘the light of the world’.

Many people in this age and time, having been saved and doing the will of God, also qualify to be called ‘lights of the world’. And Apostle Paul confirmed this position as follows: “For once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord …’’ (Ephesians 5:8).

Anyone who aspires to be a ‘light of the world’ must be prepared to demonstrate the following characteristics of the conventional light among others, at all times. They are:

1. Brightness. All useful lights must be bright enough to enhance visibility, and allow tasks to be accomplished readily. Equally, the ‘lights of the world’ must be bright enough to make the task of attracting people to God accomplished readily. Jesus Christ supported this view in Matthew 5:16 as follows: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven’’. Friends, be rest assured that each time you do good to people, your light will shine brighter.

2. Colour. The natural light is made up of seven lovely colours viz. red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Meanwhile, colours add value to things. Likewise, Jesus will add colour (i.e. add value to) the ‘lights of the world’ if they abide in Him. He made reference to this point in John 15:7 like this: “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you’’. Friends, if you abide (accept, put up with, stand, etc.) with Jesus Christ, He will provide your needs, and add value to your life.

3. Temperature. Every light carries in it, a degree of heat energy. And the brighter it shines, the more heat energy it carries, and the hotter it becomes. Similarly, the brighter any ‘light of the world’ is, the hotter (more fervent) he or she becomes for use by Jesus Christ. But, if he or she fail to shine brightly, his or her temperature will fall, and Jesus will do away with him or her without fail (Revelation 3:15-16)!

How then can I become a ‘light of the world’ you may wish to ask at this moment? Well, the starting point is to accept Jesus Christ into your life as your personal Lord and Saviour; i.e. you must be born again! And if you have earlier, but you are presently not happy with your relationship with Him, please consider rededicating your life to Him immediately.

Friends, now that Jesus Christ is in your heart and God’s word is in your mouth, please go out and be useful to people. Visit them, talk to them, help them, show them the way, feed them, clothe them, defend them, give them hope, and above all, preach Jesus to them. The more you do these, the brighter, more colourful, and hotter you will become. Besides, the more people will be attracted to God through you, and the more your reward will be (Matthew 25: 31-40), in Jesus name.  Amen.

Jesus is Lord!
