Before Jesus Christ left the world, He said it is to the advantage of His disciples that He should go away, for Him to send the Holy Spirit, the Helper, to them (John 16:7). He knew they couldn’t do well without Him (i.e., the Holy Spirit)!
In the same vein, my earliest Pastor, a man we respect very much, knew we cannot do well without the Holy Spirit too. So, he made sure we got baptized in Him quickly. It is not surprising, therefore, that many members of our church later went out boldly, to witness for Jesus everywhere, and still did well for themselves.
In my own case, as a young man, I regarded the Holy Spirit as a myth, Who doesn’t deserve my time. But, I changed my opinion after I embraced Him because He filled me with great power to witness for Jesus Christ; an activity I found ridiculous earlier.
Specifically, he filled me with the power to witness to people in drama, singing and dancing, in addition to creative designs, preaching, and teaching, etc. By the way, these were activities I felt too indifferent and probably too ‘classy’ to bother myself with, before then.
One day, I asked Him to help me sharpen my writing skill, so that I could use it to honour God and promote Christianity better, and He answered me! Now, I can point to standard books, and several sound Christian articles I wrote under His inspiration, which are being read and used, all over the world. I give Him praise!
Friends, you too can do well like others out there, if you embrace the Holy Spirit today, for He will help you, teach you, and remind you all things (John 14:26). He will also guide you into all truth and tell you things to come (John 16:13). Moreover, He will help you speak in tongue (Acts 2:4) so that you can communicate directly with God (1 Corinthians 14:2).
What’s more, He will give you strength (Romans 8:26), and you will cease to live your life ordinarily (Romans 8:9 (GNT)). Then, people will notice you (Matthew 7:16) and follow you to give their lives to Jesus Christ. Not only that, God will reward you lavishly in the end (Matthew 25:21).
But you must be born-again first if you haven’t hitherto. That is, you must give your life to Jesus Christ to receive the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13). Most Pastors will be willing to help you out with this important activity! And once you have Him on board your life, you will be filled with power to witness for Jesus everywhere (Acts 1:8), and still do well for yourself, in Jesus name. Amen.

I went for an important appointment far away from my base some time ago.   And because I could not afford to be late for it, I left my house early enough, hoping to get to where it was to take place in a good time.  But about mid-way into my journey, a thick fog which reduced visibility to almost nil, suddenly appeared.  And all of us using the road at that time had to veer off it, and pack our cars by the roadside, so as to avoid unnecessary accidents. After a fairly long time, the fog disappeared, and we continued our journeys.  I barely made my appointment at the end of the day!

Fogs by the way, are a collection of liquid water droplets or ice crystals suspended in the air at, or near the Earth’s surface.  Usually, they form rapidly, and disappear rapidly.  But at times, they take quite a while to disappear, thus reducing visibility, and slowing down or completely halting all means of transportation.  This might bring about undue hardship, missed appointments or opportunities, loss of revenue, accidents, and even deaths, if care is not taken. So, every fog must be handled with great caution.

Figuratively speaking, there are certain situations that I call the ‘Fogs of Life’. They are the ones that slow down, or completely halt a person’s progress, bring about hardship, panic, uncertainty, missed opportunities, loss of earnings, and grief etc. They can also kill, if care is not taken. These situations include sudden death of a bread winner/loved one, incapacitating illnesses, loss of jobs, collapsed businesses, broken marriages, crushed dreams, poverty, and restrictive customs and laws, among others. While some of them may disappear spontaneously on their own, others may not; they need divine intervention to budge. And like natural fogs, all fogs of life must be handled with great caution.

Experience has shown that we need the help of God to handle the fogs of life that refused to disappear on their own. If you get Him involved in yours, He will help you out! He confirmed this in Isaiah 41:10 as follows: “Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand’’. But it is impossible to involve God directly without passing thorough Jesus Christ (John 14:6).

So, how can I involve Jesus Christ in the fogs of my life? You may now wish to ask! Well, very simple! You have to align yourself with Him, and the easiest way to do this is to become born-again! Are you born-again? If you are, well done! But if you are not, then do so right now by confessing your sins, and forsaking them. After that, invite Jesus Christ to take over your life as your personal Lord and Saviour; He will (John 6:37). When you are through with this vital spiritual exercise, then, you can confidently pray to Him to remove the fog(s) in your life, and He will answer you  (Matthew 11:28).

Friends, Jesus is waiting for you today, please don’t miss this great opportunity. God bless.

I took part in a discourse titled ‘The Weapons of Our Warfare‘ some time ago, and it blessed me a great deal.  I have just finished reviewing my contribution in it, and I wish to share what I came up with, with you in this write-up, in a question and answer format.  I pray that it blesses you, as it blessed me in Jesus name.  Amen.

1.  What is Warfare?

Warfare can be defined as a ”lengthy and difficult conflict or struggle”, usually between competitors.  It is the same thing as war, battle, combat, hostilities, clash, fighting, and strife.

2.  Are we really threatened by war?

Yes we are threatened by loads of them; physical and spiritual.  We can’t possibly escape them (John 16:33b), but they are essential for our survival.  For example, as soldiers of Christ, we need them to toughen us, so that we can battle our enemies more robustly (2 Timothy 2:3).  They also helps us to prove our commitments to God (remember Job?), and to demonstrate His power in our lives (Acts 16:16-26), etc.

3.  Who and what are we at war with?

We are at war with all kinds of people and things.  Usually, they make our lives very difficult, and they prevent us from achieving our best in life.  We can also be at war with our souls, when we sin (1 Peter 2:11).  Besides, we are often at war with circumstances of life such as debt, poverty, marital/family disruption, unemployment, ill-health, harmful habits, oppressive governments and institutions, etc.  We are also at wars with unseen forces, which by the way, are often incredibly powerful, and unbelievably deadly (Ephesians 6:12).

4.  What are the weapons of our warfare?

We have many lethal weapons to execute warfare (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).  They include the Human Tongue, which is small in size, but very formidable (James 3:5).  It can break bones (Proverbs 25:15) and it can be used to decree all things into existence (Job 22:28).  The Word of God is another one! It carries great power when applied (Hebrews 4:12).  We also have the Blood of Jesus, which we can use (plead) to overcome the Devil (Revelation 12:11), attain peace (Colossians 1:20) and realize freedom (Zechariah 9:11).  The name of Jesus is also there for our use, and it guarantees victory at all times (Philippians 2:9-11).  The Holy Spirit is a leading weapon as well.  He helps us in all ways; no wonder that Jesus Christ so vehemently stressed the need for the Holy Spirit to replace Him on earth (John 16:7).

5.  How can we win our wars?

We can win our wars by following the right protocols. Firstly, we must recognize our limitations (John 15:5), and allow Jesus Christ, the all-powerful one (Mathew 28:18), to help us out.  But we have to be His children first, before He can do so (Matthew 15:21-26) and we can only be His children, by becoming born again.  Are you born again? If you are, good for you!  But if you are not, please invite Him to take over your life as your personal Lord and Saviour right now, and He will not rebuff you (John 6:37)!  We must also be very prayerful (1 Thessalonians 5: 17), and patient as some wars may take longer than we expected to wind up (Matthew 10:22b).  Of course, we must boldly use all the weapons of warfare at your disposal, trusting God to give us victory come what may, and He will (Hebrews 11:6) in Jesus name.  Amen.

In summary, it is obvious that warfare is real, and that no one can escape them.  But they are not meant to consume us (Isaiah 54:17).  So, we must observe the right protocols at all times, and use all our weapons of warfare at our disposal boldly to confront them, and we can be sure of victory at the end of the day in Jesus name.  Amen.

I am very pleased to do this write-up, with the title ‘Built on the Rock’, which incidentally, is the motto of my Alma-Mata; Government College, Ibadan (GCI).  Nigeria.  To God be the glory.

In Matthew 7:24 Jesus Christ said:  “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:’’.

Jesus uttered the statement above, to a crowd of people during one of His teaching sessions.  You may be wondering why He likened the aforementioned person, to a ‘rock’ and not to something else.   Well, we’ll find out the reason why shortly.  But before then, let us look around the word ‘rock’ first, so that we can better appreciate the substance of this write-up.  A rock by definition, is a large piece of stone, which rises up from the ground or from underneath the sea.  There are loads and loads of them all over the world, and they appear in various shapes, sizes and colours.  While some are very hard in texture (e.g., Igneous rock), others, like Sedimentary and Metamorphic rocks, are not as hard.

Hard rocks are famously used in the construction industry, for foundation laying purposes.  And the structures built on them, are generally solid enough to withstand onslaughts from harsh weather conditions (Matthew 7:25).

Apart from physical rocks, we also have spiritual rocks, figuratively speaking.  As the name suggests, they symbolize Spiritual beings with unique characteristics.  Amongst others, they are very powerful, brave, knowledgeable, honest, kind, loving, prayerful and fiercely loyal to God.  They are also very reliable and if you commit any task into their hands, it will be done very swiftly with an uncommon clinical efficiency.  Jesus Christ is referred to as a ‘Rock’ in the bible!  For example, the Psalmist referred to Him as a ‘Rock’ in Psalm 18:31 as follows: ”For who is God, except the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God”? And being a strong (hard) rock, He constitutes the most formidable foundation ever known to humanity (1 Corinthians 3:11).   Therefore, anyone who hears His teachings, and does them, will be strong and have all that it takes to stand firm in the face of adversities.  That is why He likened him, to a wise man who build his house on the rock (Matthew 7:24).

We can build many things on Jesus Christ, the grand Rock, and they will surely do very well.  Some of them are our:

1.  Health

Jesus Christ is interested in promoting our health and this can be verified in Deuteronomy 7:15, thus: ”And the Lord will take away from you all sickness, and will afflict you with none of the terrible diseases of Egypt which you have known, but will lay them on all those who hate you”.  If you build your health on Him, He will promote it too.

2.  Businesses

The Lord is also interested in blessing our businesses and the bible supported this position in Deuteronomy 16:15 in this fashion:  ”…the Lord your God will bless you in all your produce and in all the work of your hands, so that you surely rejoice”.  Therefore, if you want your business or ministry, education, etc. blessed then, build it on Jesus Christ.

3.  Families

The Lord is very keen on fighting for us and the members of our family.  That is why in Isaiah 49:25, He said: ”…I will contend with him who contends with you, and I will save your children”.  Please build your family on Jesus Christ, and He will fight for all of you as a matter of priority.

4.  Security

Except we build our security on Jesus, we will always have worrisome security challenges to grapple with. That is why the Psalmist said: ”…Unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain” (Psalm 127:1).  It sounds reasonable therefore that if you want to keep secure in this unsecure world, then build your security on Jesus Christ and you will not be disappointed.

5.  Nations

Virtually all the nations on earth need healing as they are doing very badly these days.  But things can only change if we set (build) them on Jesus Christ.  In 2 Chronicles 7:14, the bible says:  ”if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land”.  Please let us build our nations on Jesus Christ as from now on, and they shall prosper.

Friend, as you can see, it is very rewarding to build on Jesus Christ, the Rock.  But we can only do so if we are His.  That is, if we have already accepted Him into our lives as our personal Lord and Saviour or better still, if we are born again!  Are you born again? If you are, bravo! But if you are not, please invite Him into your life right now (1 Corinthians 6:2).  It is after taking this giant step that it can be said of you that in truth, you built on Jesus Christ, the rock of all ages, and the result will be obvious for all to see.  May He help you, as you build on Him.  Amen.

Jesus is Lord!

This write up is a follow up to my earlier post in memory of one of my earliest bosses. By way of summary, He was a superb Medical Practitioner who became born again after some promptings from me. Sadly, he died in a motor accident less than one month afterward. We mourned his death deeply, but, we were encouraged in a vision that he attained heaven. You can read the entire post on my website by clicking the link that follows:

My boss attained heaven so, what is the big deal about that? Well, the big deal is that he accomplished a big feat. And judging by what the bible says about Heaven, it is a breath-taking place, which every right thinking Christian should seek to inhabit in the long run. And to motivate us towards achieving this, I will now corroborate what the bible says about the place with the declaration of a senior friend of mine, moments before she passed away.

Ruby (not the real name) was 92 years old when I first met her on profession grounds. Though old, she was mentally agile and in total control of her life. At every point in time, she wore the clothes she liked, ate the food she wanted, slept when she desired, met whomever she chose to meet, etc. And no one could mess up with her and get away unchallenged, but, she loved God and humanity dearly.

As I was leaving her residence one Sunday morning, she noticed that I was singing a Christian hymn and she asked if she could join me and I said yes. Next, she asked if I am a Christian and I also said yes.  She then told me that she was a devoted Christian herself, but had stopped hobnobbing with other Christians owing to the rigors of old age. Anyway, we spent a short but memorable time together on that occasion, singing, praying and praising the Lord. We met several times thereafter.

One day, I went to her residence as pre-arranged and met some people with gloomy faces at the entrance; the reason being that Ruby was about to die. I quickly ran to her room and discovered that though very weak, she was heartily discussing her imminent transition to heaven with her daughter and son in-law. She also said many things about heaven as revealed to her in the spirit. For instance, she confirmed that it is a very lovely place (Revelation 21:9-21), inhabited by joyful people (Psalm 16:11), who are trouble free (Revelation 7:16-17), just worshipping the Lord (Nehemiah 9:6). Ruby also disclosed that she saw some people she knew on earth, who are now dead, in Heaven (1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 (NLT)).  Finally, she told us that she saw her heavenly mansion waiting for her habitation (John 14:2-3).

At a point, her daughter interjected and said “Mum, you’ve been a very good wife, mother and Christian all your life, please go and enjoy your well-deserved rest in heaven’’ and Ruby said “thank you darling’’. She was later informed that I was around and she opened her eyes, held my hand firmly and with a lovely smile, she said: “Adedayo, thank you for being a part of my journey on earth. I am going home very soon, and I hope to see you there someday’’. And not very long after that, she closed her eyes, fell asleep, and never woke again.

I believe God gave Ruby a glimpse of heaven (Joel 2:28) to remind us that it is real, stunning and attainable. But we can only get there by becoming born again (John 3:3). If you haven’t, please take this all important step right away before it is too late. Then, guide your salvation jealously (Philippians 2:12) and stand firmly too (1 Corinthians 10:12). Above all, focus your attention relentlessly on Jesus Christ (Hebrews 12:2) and by the grace of God, you will attain heaven in the end, like my boss and my friend, Ruby, in Jesus name. Amen.

The disciples of Jesus Christ encountered many difficulties before and after His crucifixion. They were treated very unkindly everywhere they went and they were sore afraid and unsure of what the future had in stock for them. Essentially, they were like sheep without a shepherd. However, reprieve came their way on the third day with the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He gladdened their hearts, allayed their fears, encouraged them and gave them the great commission with the assurance of His perpetual presence with them. He said ‘’…lo, I am with you always, even to the end of age’’ (Matthew 28:20). That was the impetus they needed to face challenges, subdue them and become positive role models till now.

To some extent, the situation of the world as it is today can be likened to some of those encountered by the disciples. As a result of our present excruciating Economic, Social and Political climates, a lot of people are battling untold hardship while fear cum uncertainty has become a regular feature of our lives. Governments are panicking, grown-ups are moaning, children are crying, hope is receding and time is going. Without doubt, we need help and Jesus Christ is the only one who can provide it on a platter of gold (Psalm 121:1) and today, He is saying ‘’…lo, I am with you always, even to the end of age’’. So, cheer up!

As we know, Jesus being with people is replete with several benefits some of which I’ll like us to consider for encouragement in this write up. They are:

1. Direction. In his confused state, Apostle Paul, mindful of the presence of Jesus Christ, asked for direction and He gave it to him (Acts 9:1-18). And that marked the beginning of his success story which is the envy of all Christians up to now. It sounds reasonable therefore, that if you desire success in any area of your life and become the envy of all then, you must be prepared to ask Jesus Christ for direction and He’ll give it to you. Prophet Isaiah strengthened this stance when he said: ‘’Your ears shall hear a word behind you saying ‘’this is the way, walk in it’’ (Isaiah 30:21).

2. Peace. Peace is an essential universal commodity and Jesus Christ possesses the ability to give it to you freely if you ask Him. Please note that you don’t need any special prowess before taking this step; all you need is the audacity to do so. Remember that Jesus is the prince of peace (Isaiah 9:6) hence; He is best suited to dish it out and His brand of peace is available for all at all times. He confirmed this in John 14:27 by saying ‘’Peace I leave with you, My peace I give you…’’. So, go for it right now!

3. Security. Jesus Christ is the only person who can guarantee the world a foolproof security and the Psalmist proved this view to be true in Psalm 127:1. He said: ‘’…Unless the Lord guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain’’. So, if you want foolproof security in various areas of your life as from now on then, ask Jesus Christ and He’ll organize it for you (John 10:27-28).

4. Salvation. Zacchaeus was a notorious tax collector and a first class sinner but salvation came his way the day Jesus went to his abode. And immediately, his odious past became unimportant and he went on to become a very decent person and an excellent candidate for heaven (Luke 19:1-10). You too can obtain salvation from Jesus Christ today if you ask Him and you’ll be able to enter the Kingdom of God unencumbered at the right time (John 3:3).

How then can Jesus Christ be with you such that you’ll be able to enjoy the abovementioned benefits and more? Well, first, you must seek Him diligently and you’ll find Him (2 Chronicles 15:2). Invite Him to take charge of your life as your personal Lord and Saviour; that is, you must be born again (if you aren’t yet). When you are through with this step then, He’ll dignify you with His presence and shower you with His mind blowing blessings (John 15:4-5). Friend, this is a step that is worth taking and by the grace of God, you will not lose out and your joy will be full in Jesus name. Amen.

Jesus is Lord!

Prophet Daniel, while encouraging the faithful said: ‘’…the people who know their God shall be strong and carry out great exploits’’ (Daniel 11:32).

This is a very popular bible passage and one of my favorites because it proves that knowing God is profitable.  And we can appreciate it a lot better by breaking it into three parts and examining each independently.  The parts I am suggesting here are Being Strong, Carrying out Great Exploits and Knowing God in that order.

1.  Being Strong.  On becoming born again, I developed immense strength which propelled me to start taking part in several Christian activities.  I started witnessing to people in drama, speaking engagements, talk shows, televangelism, creative writings and designs, mentoring, etc. These were things I would have been too busy, too unconcerned, too hesitant, and too impatient to embrace under normal circumstances. But, I took them on with dedication almost round the clock yet; I had ample strength left to attend to my patients the way I should.  I later discovered that I was not alone in this state; other Christians are likewise affected and I became interested in knowing why.  Soon, I found relief in Nehemiah 8:10 which says ‘’…the joy of the Lord is your strength’’ and straightaway, I knew that it is the joy of the Lord within us that makes us so strong.  This intensity of joy and strength awaits you today if you covet them.

2.  Carrying out Great Exploits.  Great exploits by the way, are stunning feats and there are many of them all around us but I found those captured in Mark 16:17-18 most eye catching i.e. casting out demons, speaking in new tongues, overcoming deadly substances/situations and healing the sick.  Imagine how useful you can become to this generation if you are able to carry out such great exploits.  It is the aforementioned strength that enables us (Christians) to carry them out through Jesus Christ and Apostle Paul confirmed this position in Philippians 4:13 when he said‘’I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me’’.  You too can do all things, including carrying out great exploits, through Christ if you wish.

3.  Knowing God.  Knowing God leads the way to being strong and being able to carry out great exploits (Daniel 11:32) and it is only possible through Jesus Christ (John 14:6).  However, one needs to be born again first.  How then can one be born again you may wish to ask? Very simple!  To begin with, you must confess your sins and then ask Jesus Christ to forgive you and He will (1 John 1:9).  Next, invite Him to take over your life as your personal Lord and Savior and again, He will (John 6:37).  When this is over and done with then by faith, you are truly born again and well positioned to know God intimately (John 3:3).

Friend, this is another grand opportunity for you to be born again if you are not up till now-please don’t misuse it!  And if you are already born again, I rejoice with you heartily.  Without doubt, you do possess enormous strength!  Therefore as from this moment, go out and carry out great exploits not only for yourself, but for humanity and for God as wel,l and you can be rest assured that your efforts will be adequately rewarded at some point (2 Chronicles 15:7) in Jesus name.  Amen.

Jesus is Lord!
